Bicycling with Butterflies - How to Host Author Events

Sara is excited to tell the story of her bicycle adventure, the monarchs, and her book, Bicycling with Butterflies, with you and your community. She is currently booking virtual events. These event can be tailored to suit the needs of each venue. In general, they run one hour. In the first half, Sara tells stories from the road, lessons from the monarchs, and ways that we can all be part of the solution. The second half is for questions, as well as for hosts to highlight work they are doing to protect the monarch.

Steps to Hosting an Event:

  1. Fill out the Event Form or email Sara at beyondabook at gmail.com

  2. Think about finding co-hosts to help reach a more diverse audience

The great thing about Sara’s book is that it can bring together a wide range of folks. Potential co-hosts include local book shops, bike shops, nature centers, libraries, monarch advocacy groups, gardening groups, plant nurseries, book clubs, bike clubs, and ice cream shops (Sara loves ice cream!).

  3. Spread the word.

Write up a blurb and submit to organizations with newsletters, email updates, catalogs, and social media accounts. Read our sample newsletter blurb for inspiration.

  4. Tell your local media outlets

Share event details with local media. Be sure to link to our Media Page which includes an official press release, contact information, and much more.

  5. Plant Milkweed

Okay, this is not necessary for hosting an event, but it is always a good idea to plant milkweed!

Bicycling with Butterflies author events are a fun way to spread the word about the monarch migration and get people excited about local effort to help protect monarchs and other native species.
